Colorado: Where the New Challenges Were Born! | GripTape Molly Deaver 12:32 PM (24 minutes ago) to me

Yes, you read that right! Along with our fan-favorite Learning Challenge, we’ve launched pilots for TWO new Challenges in rural Colorado.

And we’re currently accepting applications for the fall 2020 cycle of the Learning Challenge from youth across the U.S. — so share the application with a young person who could benefit. They just have to be 15–19 years old and have something they’re passionate about learning!!

“You could make a business out of anything just because the access of the internet is a fingertip away,” were the words spoken by McKay Russell, a former GripTape Challenger who resides in Colorado’s San Luis Valley and has a knack for stocks!

Two ambition-filled years ago, GripTape committed to serving SLV youth with our one-of-a-kind program, the Learning Challenge. Immediately, we saw so many passions ignited and so many driven individuals that we had to do more. So we did what we do best: curated two brand-new programs and expanded to other rural Colorado communities! From the Learning Challenge to the Entrepreneur’s Challenge to the Community Challenge, GripTape is committed to bringing rural Colorado youth opportunities to drive their learning passions and chart their paths to success. And with the impact and uncertainty of the pandemic, it’s more important than ever that we support the growth of these passions!

In our 12-week Entrepreneur’s Challenge, 15–19-year-old SLV youth are given their own budget and supported by a GripTape adult and a peer entrepreneur as they design and grow their own business ventures aligned with their passions. McKay is currently focused on purchasing low-priced items and ‘flipping’ them to make a profit for the business he’s building. Now we may not be able to control everything going on in the world, but as McKay said, “Once you stop focusing on the things you can’t control and start focusing on the ones you can, you can accomplish anything.”

And in typical GripTape-fashion, we move fast so we’re actually heading into our next pilot of the Community Challenge! This program offers the opportunity for a group of GripTape SLV alumni to collaborate for six whole months to address a local need in their community. In the last cycle, 10 young people created a youth-run center called the ‘Rabbit Hole’ where counseling and safe activities will be provided for teens in the area. We’re excited to see what this upcoming group will design; it’s a given that it will be impactful and inspiring 🙂

If you happen to know any SLV youth who want to tackle big issues and take things into their own hands, go ahead and share the Community Challenge application with them! But hurry — the program starts October 5.
(Quick! Do it now!)

Who’s That Challenger?!

“You have more potential than what you need!”

Here we have a Challenger who dove right into a financially oriented Challenge. With confidence and curiosity, they tackled an unexplored area of their own learning and now have new skills to claim for it.

“My GripTape Challenge was on the stock market and investing. I just thought it was pretty cool and interesting. There’s a lot of different opportunities!”

Think you know who this Challenger is?

What Do Challengers Strive For?

Here we are — despite everything this year has thrown our way, young people have shown up and shown out in their communities. Both digital AND face-to-face. Naturally, GripTape has an obligation to provide a boost to the youth who are ready to kick things up a notch. And a lot of youth have! We sponsored more Challengers than ever before this summer, and we think demand from young people is just going to keep growing as they take control of their learning and keep striving for greatness.

They want to learn. They want to show up.
And they will always have our support.
